A Surprising Day in Chiang Mai - Thailand

While we were in Chiang Mai, we went to the Elephant Poopoo Paper Park!

It is where you collect elephant poop and turn it into paper.  We spent a couple of hours at this place.  We got to try all of the steps involved in making paper.  It was super fun!

The entrance- the pile in the middle is elephant poop

We got to hold elephant poop- it was literally like a light boulder

We cooked the elephant poop to remove the germs.  I got to stir it!

Next step- we chose a clump of fibres.  Some were dyed with food colouring.  I picked yellow!  We spread it around in water and then lifted it out in a frame.

Then you let it dry in the sun for 6 hours

I decorated a journal

      Thanks for the nice words about my journal - everything on the journal was made from elephant poo! I love learning on this trip... my other favourites are: Japanese Samurai, elephants in Thailand, caves, cooking classes, my times tables, snorkeling in Hawaii and lots more!

    Great post Parker. Are there other kinds of animal poops that are being turned into paper products? The colours of the paper are very vibrant, were plants used to add the colour? Very cool.

    Yes - they also use Cow and Horse poo, but not at this park. They use poo because the animal's guts break the fibers down to be more thin and so it's better for making paper. The colours come from food colouring! Thanks for your comment, mystery commenter ;)

Slovenia - Ljubljana

 A Long Time Coming... COVID wasn't much fun for anyone. We fared well, but amongst the things COVID destroyed was our wanderlust - we stayed close to home, and leaned into Canada .
