How I celebrated my 10th birthday in Japan

I celebrated my 10th birthday in Japan by going to the Kyoto Samurai Museum.  The Kyoto Samurai Museum is a museum in one of the outdoor sheltered malls.  In the museum you can look around at old Samurai armour but if you make a reservation beforehand, you can head to the upper floors.

The reservation that we made was for Parker and me to do a Samurai lesson with real Samurai swords and for the whole family to throw ninja stars at targets, shoot blow darts at targets, try on some armour, and watch a Samurai and a Samurai student perform a demonstration of Samurai battles.  We also had a guided tour and history lesson about the Samurai era in Japan.  Mom and Dad surprised me and everything was so much fun!!

Samurai were warriors that fought and were also like police at the time.  Only the Shogun and the Emperor were higher ranked than the Samurai.  Samurai were quite powerful until the mid 1800's.

Some of the farmers were Ninjas at night.  Those who work as Ninjas during the night time work for one of the Samurai clans and spy on the other clan.  One of their offensive moves was to shoot blow darts that have snake poison on the tip of the dart.

After our experience at the museum we went out for Nepalese food for dinner.  I ate delicious tandoori chicken and naan bread.  I had a really great day!

Well, it turns out, you can find the backdrop you need for your make-believe at Velika Planina in Slovenia. You can hike (a few hours) or take a cable car up to a high-altitude plain where you will find a village nestled on the lee-side of an ever-present windy peak.  A hearty people live here - a tribe of herdsmen.  They build unique huts, in an ancient way, and allow tourists to explore their space/land. Slovenia - Ljubljana

 A Long Time Coming... COVID wasn't much fun for anyone. We fared well, but amongst the things COVID destroyed was our wanderlust - we stayed close to home, and leaned into Canada .
